The kitchen among the olive trees

A small village with a few houses, in Montevarchi, Ventena, has become the location of my last kitchen. As I said to my clients: “mine” because with Marta I made it real, with ideas, designs, tests and changes. But “mine” because, as happens to all that comes out of the lab doors to be delivered, I keep a piece of it in my memory and heart, because every object has been sweated and studied as if it were to become mine.
Newly arrived I felt catapulted into the tale of Pinocchio illustrated by Roberto Innocenti: houses perched, uphill lanes of pebbles and grass, the alternating stone brick facades and the unmistakable green shutters.
A fabulous corner immersed in olive groves as the eye can see. And that’s where Marta lives with her two children and is rearranging an old dream: the ‘400 house has a courtyard, the olive grove, outside stairs and a small entrance portico. Inside the stone is left exposed in some areas of the walls, and the restructuring plans finishes from gray-blue tones, such as Panaria tiles in bathroom and kitchen, reproducting the old cement tiles. Maxi cement-like tiles for floors.
My task was to dress up the kitchen corner starting from her requests, very clear and decisive: wood, iron and sliding doors.
The sunny day was perfect, and as it was for Rome, my collaborator Roberto has made possible on-site transport and assembly, as well as being the hand that assembles all. This time with the help of Anton, without whose help certain kitchen parts would be perhaps still in the yard…
And so another creation has taken up residence in a beautiful place, and I hope it’ll be exploited to the maximum by Marta and her lovely family, and that they never fear of ruining or wear out it. My motto is always the same: more an object is consumed and more it becomes unique. Green light to scratches, spots and blemishes, because they are the soul of the pieces that come to life by re-use and recycling.

I also posted one of my preparatory drawings because I’m very proud of the result: the reality is not far from the project.

Marta and Andrea, at the launch of the kitchen: the last of the many coffees of the day served and drank directly on the new peninsula.
